Macro Engineering & Technology Inc. of Mississauga, Ontario, has upgraded its heavy-sheet winder used to provide roofing membranes.
To increase output, Macro shortened the winder's automatic roll transfer sequence from 75 seconds to 50 seconds, so the extrusion line can run 50 percent faster.
Also, the winder now can handle finished rolls from 200 millimeters to 700mm in diameter, and up to 3.5 meters wide.
The winder uses straight cuts for an accurate roll length. A new roll-start uses a tucking mechanism that eliminates the need for glue, tape or staples to fix the sheet onto the core.
A slitting station creates multiple rolls. An accumulator gives two minutes of contingency time during changeovers, sample cuts and routine maintenance.
