PlasticsEurope has come out in support of a European Parliament commitment to help cut youth unemployment.
The thinking behind the idea is to help lift Europe out of the current employment crisis as well as to promote best practices in education policies.
The commitment — backed by politicians and business leaders — was made at an event organized by PlasticsEurope in close collaboration with EU40 — a network of young members of the European Parliament who were 40 or under at the time of their election.
"PlasticsEurope is deeply committed to working for, and with, the youth of Europe, stimulating discussions on how to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come," said Patrick Thomas, chief executive of Bayer MaterialScience AG and president PlasticsEurope.
"This industry seeks to create the right opportunities for young people entering the job market in these challenging economic times, so that we are able keep our best talents here in Europe."
PlasticsEurope is a Brussels-based trade group that represents European plastics materials suppliers.
