UFP Technologies Inc. announced the opening of the company's sixth clean room in an effort to expand further into the medical device field.
The Georgetown, Mass.-based company said the opening of the clean room is at its existing manufacturing facility in Glendale Heights, Ill., located 27 miles west of Chicago. The clean room takes over other former manufacturing space at the facility and was added “based on the need of our customers,” Tom Fitzgerald, the company's marketing communications manager said.
“We do a mix of solutions for the medical space,” he said. “It's the largest market we serve.”
The total investment for the improvements was approximately $550,000.
New production machinery was installed within the clean room to manufacture custom components, product, and packaging from medical-grade foams and thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU), the company said. The new capabilities, which include RF welding, high speed die cutting and heat sealing.
Fitzgerald said the company designs and manufacturers a number of custom packaging, components and products.
“We use medical grade foams, films, plastics and thermoforming packaging as well,” he said. “Just really anything where we can take those materials and form into a solution whether it's packaging, a component or a product.”
UFP Technologies has 11 facilities throughout the country and sites in Grand Rapids, Mich.; Georgetown, Mass.; El Paso, Texas; Rancho Dominguez, Calif.; and Costa Mesa, Calif. have clean rooms.
