Victrex plc has a new PEEK-based engineering resin suitable for food-contact equipment.
Victrex PEEK 90GL30BLK EU meets stringent food-contact requirements in the United States and Europe and is designed to replace other engineering materials and metals. Victrex claims the new grade avoids contamination and taste variation. Compared to competing materials the product exhibits exceptional wear, chemical and hydrolysis resistance combined with excellent creep properties, dimensional stability and mechanical strength, according to Victrex. It also resists high-pressure steam cleaning.
“This is how our new food contact grade helps extend the service life of components,” explains Victrex product development manager Phil Pritchard.
Victrex says the new PEEK reduces component costs versus metal and can be thin-wall injection molded.
