A U.S.-owned European manufacturer and converter of biodegradable films is investing 3 million euros to expand its 10,000 square meter industrial site at Beli Manastir, Croatia.
EcoCortec, part of Cortec Corp. of St Paul, Minn., produces corrosion protection films using the parent group's VpCI (Vapor phase corrosion inhibitor) technology. The firm is constructing a new 1,600 square meter production hall at the Croatian facility to house three more hi-tech extrusion lines and a VpCI papers confectioning line.
The expansion will allow the plant to double its production as well as adding more storage capacity for a range of Cortec products. Apart from extrusion, the operation also does bag converting and printing.
EcoCortec's Croatian plant, located near a main trans-European highway, is equipped with blown film extrusion lines turning out biodegradable alternative products to polyethylene.
Some 95 percent of the European facility's production is geared to satisfying the export market.
