DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY—Maag Pump Systems AG (Hall 9/A-4), is taking the wraps off the sixth generation of its melt pump that has wider gears, so it reduces friction and imparts less heat into the material, while increasing throughput.
Maag is not showing the actual pump at K 2013, but the company has information about it. Urs Gull, director of sales for the Swiss company, said Maag expects to begin producing the new gear pump next year. Maag has some of the new models at customers for testing.
The pump reduces the temperature of the material because it reduces friction. It's also smaller, with a 10 percent lower height, but 5-20 percent more throughput. With the same installed height and design pressure of the earlier model, the new one can boost output as much as 50 percent, Maag said.
