Arburg Inc. is constructing new U.S. headquarter offices with showroom, training and machine and spare parts warehouse capabilities in Rocky Hill, Conn.
The new location is less than six miles from Arburg's existing facility in Newington, Conn. Arburg owns both locations and has had a U.S. presence since 1991.
Arburg expects to occupy the new single-story high-bay 26,545-square-foot building in about one year.
Arburg says the building will reflect the company's corporate identity and its architectural use of large glass facades.
President Friedrich Kanz led a groundbreaking ceremony recently and noted that, among other things, the site will offer ways for Arburg to provide customers with turnkey solutions.
The showroom will have space for up to seven Allrounder injection molding machines, which will be available for customer mold testing, production-specific cell development and training purposes. A 41.8-ton gantry crane will assist for logistics.
Arburg approached the Town of Rocky Hill with its plan in December and received wetlands agency approval Feb. 13 and the planning and zoning commission's okay on Feb. 20. The site is located in an office park zoning district and adjacent to Connecticut's Dinosaur State Park and Arboretum.
The structure will be positioned on land higher than the West Street thoroughfare with parking on the rear of the 3.7 acres.
Prior to construction, initial steps involved clear-cutting the property and installing erosion controls.
Tecton Architects Inc. of Hartford, Conn., designed the facility, and A/Z Corp. of North Stonington, Conn., provides the construction services.
Arburg acquired the site from real estate investment firm New Boston Fund Inc.
Arburg has existing U.S. technology centers in Elgin, Ill., and Irvine, Calif.
For its three locations, Arburg has 65 employees including 25 who are involved in sales and 32 in after-sales service and application technology consulting.
Arburg Inc. is a subsidiary of Arburg GmbH & Co. KG of Lossburg, Germany.
In June in an upgrade for Arburg GmbH's Mexican subsidiary, Arburg SA de CV opened an equipment demonstration showroom, training quarters and machine maintenance and calibration site in Juárez industrial park in Querétaro, northwest of Mexico City.
