Wilsonart LLC acquired Durcon Inc., a Taylor, Texas-based company that manufactures epoxy-resin work surfaces and sinks for laboratories and research facilities, in a move to expand product offerings.
Durcon will operate as a new, independent business unit of Wilsonart, which makes and distributes high-pressure laminates and other engineered surfaces used in commercial and residential furniture, countertops and worktops.
Terms of the acquisition were not immediately available. Wilsonart operates as a business unit of Illinois Tool Works Inc., which has its corporate headquarters in Glenview, Ill.; Durcon had been owned by the private equity firm Quad-C Management since September 2010.
The two businesses fit well together, according to Wilsonart CEO Timothy J. O'Brien.
“We are investing for growth and adding a great brand, great products and great people to the Wilsonart family,” he said in a statement. “These two organizations are culturally aligned around customer service, which will continue to be a key competitive advantage as we join forces to expand product offerings and reach new customers.”
Wilsonart, which is based in Temple, Texas, offers products under the Wilsonart, Resopal, Polyrey and Arborite brand names.
Durcon supplies chemical-resistant, lab-grade work surfaces and related products for businesses and educational facilities. The company has achieved strong customer loyalty for its brand, according to CEO Cordell Bennigson, who sees growth opportunities by joining Wilsonart.
“Together, we will continue to invest for significant growth, both organically and through expanding our products and capabilities,” he said in a statement.
The completion of the acquisition was announced on Nov. 8.
