Emerson Bearing Co. in Boston has launched a division to supply the plastics industry.
Emerson President Steve Katz said injection molding machines and extruders depend on the reliability and durability of its bearings. The extruder gearbox can run at high torques and high radial and axial loads, so it's important to monitor and replace bearings. On injection molding presses, the screw feed and linear bearings must be insensitive to heat and vibration and have high ratings for static and dynamic loads.
“We've had great results with some existing clients in the plastics industry,” Katz said. “With this new division, with dedicated marketing and customer service staff for this industry, we will be better equipped to serve current clients and attract new plastics industry clients.”
So far, Emerson Bearing has worked with several plastics processors, including producer of plastic wine corks, a plastic bag maker and a manufacturer of plastic strapping.
Bill Zylicz, Emerson Bearing marketing specialist, is responsible for the plastics industry division. The family owned company, which started in 1957, employs 22 people in a 23,000-square-foot factory making bearings ranging in size from 3 millimeter up to giant bearings, 15-foot diameter, used for tunnel boring equipment.
