Lehvoss North America LLC has debuted advanced PEEK compounds for products subject to extreme wear.
The Pawcatuck, Conn., firm claims its new Luvocom 8000 series of PEEK substitutes lubricant polytetrafluoroethylene for proprietary additives to provide wear resistance while preserving mechanical performance.
Lehvoss says a study showed a 300 percent lower wear rate for thrust washers and bushings made from Luvocom 8000 compared with those made of standard PEEK compound lubricated with PTFE. Less wear was obtained in the products in contact with stainless and carbon steels, aluminum and hardened, bearing-grade steel.
The company, a subsidiary of Lehmann & Voss Co. KG of Hamburg, Germany, predicts the new PEEK compounds open up applications in automotive, industrial, medical and energy markets.
