The Lego brick is going Hollywood. Or at least Springfield.
Following up on this winter's “The Lego Movie,” the interlocking ABS blocks are now teaming with fellow pop culture titan “The Simpsons” for a Lego version of the titular family's TV home, a series of mini Lego figurines and an episode of the Fox TV show on May 4 in which the animated Homer Simpson wakes up in a Lego version of his hometown.
As Bart would say, “Ay, caramba!”
Lego A/S released the Simpson's model house earlier this year, which retails for just shy of $200, in case you had any cash left over after your kids fell in love with “The Lego Movie” and its series of movie-based tie-in characters and settings.
Next month, the Danish toy company releases mini figurines of the entire Simpsons family — Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie, along with “okely-dokely” neighbor Ned Flanders.
And in the episode “Brick Like Me,” the show takes Homer to a Lego Springfield where he must, according to show producers, decide whether to go home or remained in an idealized version of his home.
The episode was two years in the making, according to Lego and the show's producers, and is part of the series' 25th season on the air.
