Otech Corp.'s recently developed Firexit compounds are designed for extreme resistance to smoke in wire jacketing and insulation applications such as plenum, riser and tray cable manufacturing.
The compounds, based on PVC, are claimed by the Rolling Prairie, Ind., firm to be cost-effective alternatives for some fluoropolymers. Formulations include lead- and bromine-free products, sunlight resistance, and enhanced low-smoke properties. Applications also span optical fiber buffers, thin-wall insulation and jackets. Otech President Jack O'Donnell says Firexit materials were designed with building safety the top priority.
Otech says Firexit compounds process well on standard extrusion equipment used for PVC.
