Honeywell International Inc. will add almost 90 million pounds of nylon resin capacity at its plant in Chesterfield, Va.
Officials with Morristown, N.J.-based Honeywell said in an April 29 news release that a new production line at the Chesterfield site will make both nylon 6 and copolymer nylon 6/6/6 resins. The new capacity is needed to meet demand for high-grade nylon polymers for packaging film and other applications.
Nylon resins included in the expansion are sold under the Aegis brand name. The new line is expected to begin production in the fourth quarter of 2015. When completed, the site will have annual nylon resin production capacity of about 440 million pounds per year.
“As a fully integrated nylon 6 producer, Honeywell remains well-positioned as a reliable and competitive supplier to customers worldwide,” resins and chemicals vice president and general manager Qamar Bhatia said in the release.
Honeywell — with businesses in aerospace, technologies and materials — employs 132,000 worldwide. The firm posted sales of $39.1 billion in 2013.
