Honeywell Resins and Chemicals has introduced a nylon 6 designed for wire and cable but also suited to broader uses such as molding and film extrusion.
Aegis H55WC shields wires and cables from physical and chemical damage that can cause them to fail during installation or shorten their service life. The product, certified by Underwriters Laboratories, protects against grease, oil and gas, and resists impact, abrasion and cuts. Nylon jacketing can be thinner than jacketing made with some other materials, allowing more strands of conducting metal within the insulation, which improves electrical efficiency, Honeywell claims.
The Morris Township, N.J., company says its new nylon grade is aimed at applications in construction, tools, autos, appliances, offshore oil platforms and marine equipment.
