Kaneka Corp. has developed new impact modifiers for engineering plastics.
KaneAce M-731 and M-732 are core/shell type methacrylate-butadiene-styrene copolymers mainly aimed at polycarbonate and alloys.
Kaneka, based in Osaka, Japan, says the products provide impact resistance in low-temperature applications based on the specially designed polybutadiene rubber component that gives good physical properties below -40 degrees F. Kaneka also says they are very stable at high temperatures and humidity, providing long-term durability for molded parts.
Kaneka predicts such properties will lead to a wider range of possible uses, especially in automotive.
Kaneka produces the new MBS modifiers at the Kaneka North America LLC plant in Pasadena, Texas, for markets around the world.
