Curbside plastic bag recycling is coming to one of the largest cities in the country.
San Antonio, the seventh largest city in the United States and No. 2 in Texas behind Houston, is rolling out curbside acceptance of plastic bags starting Aug. 1.
The city asks that residents create soccer ball-sized bags of bags that can be placed in residents' blue recycling containers with all of their other recyclables.
The bags need to be clean and dry with the outside bag tied together tightly to keep all of the bags enclosed.
Creating the soccer ball-sized bag of bags will help keep individual bags from creating sorting problems on recycling processing equipment.
The addition of curbside plastic bag recycling comes as ReCommunity Recycling takes over as the contract for residential recycling processing services in the city Aug. 1.
