Medical component maker UFP Technologies Inc. expanded its Georgetown, Mass., operation with the addition of a clean room and high volume equipment.
A producer of custom engineered components, products and specialty packaging, the firm will broaden its medical manufacturing capabilities with the new clean room and machinery, according to a company spokesman.
Financial details on the additions were not disclosed.
Its new ISO Class 8 (100,000) certified clean room has added a custom-built, high-volume line to support the company's growing line of components made from medical grade thermoplastic polyurethane, the firm said. The TPU components offer a high degree of resistance and flexibility to provide sterile barrier protection, it said.
UFP Technologies' plant in Georgetown, where the firm is based, spans about 70,000 square feet and with its latest addition houses five clean rooms.
“We work with an array of OEMs who produce medical devices, infection prevention and wound care products, orthopedic implants and soft goods,” the spokesman said.
UFP Technologies is primarily a designer and manufacturer of custom components and specialty packaging for medical devices, he said.
All of its products are custom made, utilizing medical grade foams, films, plastics, fabrics and other specialty materials, the spokesman said. “From these materials, we design and manufacture a range of custom components and specialty packaging.”
The company needed the clean room to handle the growing demands of its medical customers “and expand upon our innovative manufacturing capabilities,” he said.
UFP Technologies' customers rely on the company “to continually innovate our manufacturing technologies to meet stringent medical device requirements,” according to Mitch Rock, vice president of sales and marketing.
Investing in the new clean room and adding advanced manufacturing, he said, allows the firm to be a valued partner to its client base.
UFP Technologies operates seven manufacturing facilities throughout the U.S. that are ISO 13485:2003 certified and house multiple ISO Class 8 (Class 100,000) and ISO Class 7 (Class 10,000) clean rooms.
