Dow Chemical Co. could lose more than 200 million pounds of ethylene production as a result of an unplanned outage July 22 at its plant in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.
In an Aug. 4 statement, officials with Midland, Mich.-based Dow said that the affected ethylene unit “is currently back on line at low operating rates, and necessary repairs are being made to bring the operating rates back to full production as quickly as possible.”
The outage could further tighten the North American polyethylene market, which already had been impacted by outages at ethylene units operated by LyondellBasell Industries and Chevron Phillips Chemical Co.
