Custom injection molder Bright Plastics Inc. is boosting its press capability with the recent addition of a 1,220 ton Demag Titan molding machine.
“We have a couple of 1,100 ton machines, but this will be our biggest machine,” said President Kirk Sparks, in a telephone interview. Bright is based in Greensboro, N.C.
He said the machine, along with three supporting Wittmann Battenfeld robots, is being readied for use by the end of September in a newly renovated 48,000-square-foot production space. It will be used for beverage packaging, as well for lawn and garden, and transportation components.
Sparks said the press was transported from Ohio to North Carolina on a special 13-axle trailer and that they had to use a specially equipped large crane to place the machine into the facility. He noted that it was one of the largest machines in the Triad region.
“When they moved from Ohio, they had to shut both sides of a bridge to get it across,” he said.
Sparks said Bright currently has 144 employees and that the company is “definitely hiring.”
The new machine will be its 32nd injection molding press and the company is considering adding more. It operates out of two buildings totaling about 180,000 square feet.
