SITA, part of Paris-based Suez Environment, has acquired the recycling operations in the Netherlands of Houweling Group.
Houweling Group focuses on international trade in containers, transportation and warhousing, but has two production lines to recycle rigid plastics into high quality resins, both with polypropylene and polyethylene.
SITA typically specializes in waste-to-fuel, but says that it will take over Houweling's Rotterdam site in January. The plant will have an eventual production capacity of 3,600 metric tons, No financial details of the deal have been revealed.
The plant is the only one in the Netherlands to separate plastic packaging from other household sort materials for further processing, SITA officials said, and that with this acquisition it will now be able to extend its activities to include the recycling of obsolete hard plastics submitted from bulk consumers and business customers.
