MMC Packaging of Laval, Quebec, which specializes in turnkey post-molding automation equipment to manufacturers of caps and closures, has modernized its control system with a personal-computer-based industrial Ethernet technology supplied by Beckhoff Automation GmbH of Verl, Germany, and a new operator interface developed by MMC Packaging's team.
MMC makes machines for cap lining, cap slitting, assembly, closing, vision systems and other custom automation equipment. The company was looking for a control solution to overcome limitations of hardware programmable logic controllers.
MMC standardized on TwinCAT 3 software.
High density EtherCAT terminals in 16-channel format uses standard cables and does not require proprietary fieldbus cards, so you can use any standard Ethernet device
The one-cable design allows MMC Packaging to use only a single wire Ethernet cable, dramatically reducing wiring costs and saving 14 to 20 hours of installation time per setup.
