Michigan custom injection molder Wright Plastic Products will add two-shot molding capabilities as part of an expected $1.8 million investment in new equipment at its St. Clair facility.
A 450-ton Milacron two-shot press will be added next month to the facility's recent 8,000-square-foot expansion, said Tom Arquette, the facility's director of operations. That machine will be operational by mid-December, with two more machines — a 120-ton and a 250-ton — expected to follow in late 2015.
The company has also added two standard horizontal molding machines since the expansion. The new machine will be the facility's 16th.
“Originally we were real tight for space. We added space to give ourselves a little bit of room, and then that helped us secure more business, and we had to add the two horizontal machines to take care of that, and now we've got this two-shot work coming in January,” Arquette explained.
Wright Plastics expects to add 12 jobs to its current staff of 35 by the end of next year.
The company also invested $160,000 in improving its Sheridan, Mich., headquarters, including floor resurfacing, painting and new lighting.
