Medical molder Gerresheimer AG has launched a development center for medical plastic systems in Dongguan, China.
The new technical competence center will implement and manage large-scale projects independently, the company said.
Gerresheimer has two other two development centers, in Wackersdorf, Germany, and Peachtree City, Ga. These three centers develop medical plastic systems such as insulin pens, inhalers, lancets and auto-injectors. Specific functions include series design, manufacturing equipment engineering, process development, project management, quality planning, tool making, automation technology, production initiation and pre-series production.
The new center in Dongguan enables Gerresheimer to add development operations to local production, collaborate closely with customers in China, and meet the growing demand in Asia, said Andreas Schütte, management board member for the Plastics and Devices business.
Gerresheimer has been manufacturing drug-delivery devices such as inhalers and lancets for diabetes treatment and infusion products in Dongguan since 2006.
