Evertis, a PET film maker, is expanding production at plants in Mexico, Brazil and Portugal, the company said.
The subsidiary of IMG Group of Portugal will increase production by a total of 21,000 tons per year between the three sites.
That includes adding 5,000 tons in Curitiba, Brazil: 6,000 tons in Monterrey, Mexico: and 10,000 tons in Portugal.
Evertis makes mono and multilayer PET film for packaged products.
The site in Portugal increased capacity from 30,000 to 45,000 ton just last year, so the new expansion means production will just about double thanks to the two projects.
“These investments are part of a growth strategy to become the second largest PET film producer in Europe over the next few years,” the company said in a statement.
The new equipment in Portugal will produce thin gauges, Evertis said, “to target a wider range of applications and meet the growing demand for lightweight materials and decreased packaging to adjust to higher environmental standards.”
The new line in Mexico is expected to be in place by the first quarter of 2015, the company said, and will target the United States market.
