Agilyx Corp., a plastic waste-to-oil company, is facing nearly $50,000 in fines for alleged hazardous waste violations at its Tigard, Ore., research facility, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality said.
DEQ said it is fining the company $49,702 for alleged “improper management of hazardous waste, failure to maintain an up-to-date contingency plan and failure to properly train employees responsible for managing hazardous waste.”
DEQ also said the company allegedly failed to label containers holding hazardous waste near the point of waste generation, but did not issue a fine for that action.
“In determining the civil penalty amount, DEQ considered the company's efforts to correct the violations, including making hazardous waste determinations, updating its contingency plan and addressing hazardous waste storage requirements identified during DEQ's October 2013 inspection of the facility,” the state said.
