RheTech Inc. plan to commercialize its first hemp fiber compounds in January.
Whitmore Lake, Mich.-based RheTech now is developing applications for grades of its RheVision product line that combine hemp fibers with polypropylene, business development director Jim Preston said in a recent phone interview.
Potential applications include automotive and consumer goods, where Preston said the new material could replace glass-filled PP compounds.
RheTech already produces grades of RheVision that incorporate agave fibers, ground coconut, ground rice hulls, wood fiber and similar biomaterials. The firm's primary products are PP compounds for the auto sector.
