Royal DSM NV's composite resin business has launched a R&D center in Nanjing.
Jinling DSM Resins R&D and Technical Service Center is equipped with development capabilities from resin formulation to composite resin applications, the company said in a Dec. 8 news release. Located on the campus of Jinling DSM Resins Co. Ltd., the center consists of multiple laboratories for synthesis as well as technical applications including flame-resistant, infusion and corrosion-resistant materials.
DSM Composite Resins President Bert Bakker noted that China's composite industry has developed higher and more specific requirements for product performance over the last two decades. In order to achieve sustainable growth in this important market, he added, capacity expansion alone won't meet the market demand.
“We must increase our core competitiveness through innovation,” Bakker said in a news release.
The company invested 40 million yuan ($6.5 million) in the center. With a team of more than 20 researchers, the Nanjing center plans to collaborate with DSM's headquarters as well as universities and research organizations home and abroad. It aims to focus on product performance and environmental friendly products, and provide customized technical services in response to local market needs.
