Meredian Holdings Group Inc., a maker of biodegradable plastic, announced that it recently held meetings with chemicals giant BASF SE to discuss potential link-ups.
MHG Chairman and CEO Paul Pereira said in a Dec. 10 news release that he met with Johannes Becker, BASF's vice president of strategy, in Brussels last week to discuss the next steps in a series of initiatives.
“The meeting with BASF was very productive,” Pereira said in the release. “Sustainability is crucial for the future and BASF is looking to develop more sustainable solutions to meet the demands of society.
“The biopolymers we produce can provide them with materials that will help them achieve their goals of developing more sustainable products that meet economic, environmental and social needs.”
Bainbridge, Ga.-based MHG expects to be producing biodegradable plastic from canola in mid 2015.
