Macro Engineering & Technology Inc. if Mississauga, Ontario, has introduced a high-output polystyrene foam sheet extrusion line that has an output up to 1,543 pounds an hour.
The system uses tandem extruders.
The key feature: A newly designed cooling screw that guarantees both efficient cooling of the melt and highly uniform melt temperature distribution in the secondary extruder. According to Macro, this allows extrusion to occur at higher outputs and creates desirable properties in the form structure, such as an increased proportion of closed sells, which improves overall strength of the sheet.
Macro officials said the company recently installed one of these lines to an unidentified sheet producer in South America.
