Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) has started its new polycarbonate sheet production plant at its Guangzhou, China, site.
The new plant is equipped with solid sheet units and multiwall sheet units. Its major target industries include construction, agriculture, mass railway transit, lighting applications, high optical demand safety and security and protection, as well as glazing and parts for the LED industry.
The plant is offering more diversified PC sheet products, thanks to cutting-edge technology employed in extrusion machinery and processing control, BMS said in a news release. The solid sheets range between 1 and 20 millimeters in thickness and reaches up to 2.5 meters in width.
The company said these products are a favorite material of choice among glazing, safety and security, protection and LCD/LED industries, mainly due to their excellent optical features and high degree of precision.
Holly Lei, president of the polycarbonates business unit for BMS China, called the new plant “an important move towards strengthening our presence in the emerging economies.”
The polycarbonate market has been constantly growing in South China and along the coastal areas, BMS explained. The new plant aims not only to gain more market share but also to provide more efficient services to high-tech downstream industries.
The strategic location in Guangzhou will also benefit end users in Southeast Asia, the company added.
