Japan's Fanuc Corp. has added a new plant in Shanghai, along with a new technical center and research labs.
As the second phase of the Baoshan production base for Shanghai-Fanuc Robotics Co. Ltd., the project broke ground in Aug. 2013 and completed construction on Dec. 12, 2014, the company said in a statement.
The Baoshan base now has a total of 40,000 square feet of manufacturing space.
Shanghai-Fanuc, a joint venture between state-owned Shanghai Electric Group Co. Ltd. and Japan's Fanuc Corp. of Oshino, Japan, was established in 1997. Its first Shanghai factory started production in 2010.
China became the world's largest market for industrial robots in 2013, with 36,560 units sold that year, according to the International Federation of Robotics.
