RTP Co. has developed very long fiber reinforced polypropylene with low emissions suited to automotive interior uses.
The Winona, Minn., firm's PP VLF thermoplastics are designed to meet the demands by vehicle OEMs for low emissions of volatile organic compounds. The materials pass German Automotive Industry tests for odor, fogging and total VOC emissions. As well, the new materials stand up to structural demands for strength, stiffness and dimensional accuracy. RTP offers reinforcement levels of 20 to 50 percent.
“The global trend is to reduce volatile organic compounds to meet increasingly tough OEM environmental standards,” notes RTP automotive market manager Dave Pahl.
RTP says PP VLF materials are aimed at instrument panels, door module carriers, consoles, seating, load floors and other interior applications.
