DETROIT — Continuing its holiday tradition, the Detroit section of the Society of Plastics Engineers donated more than 30,000 toys to Detroit-area charities in December. An award presentation recognizing contributors was held Jan. 23.
The plastic toys were donated to the Michigan Association of United Ways and the Sergeant Santa program started by the Detroit Police Department and WWJ 950 News Radio. Since starting the tradition in 1999, SPE Detroit has donated more than 950,000 toys, according to a news release.
Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. donated the material for the toys, which were molded and assembled by American Plastic Toys Inc. of Walled Lake, Mich.
Maple Press LLC of Troy, Mich., donated labels and E.L. Hollingsworth & Co. of Plymouth, Mich., provided transportation to the distribution locations.
