Lindner washTech GmbH will show its technology for washing and drying shredded post-consumer plastic, at its NPE 2015 Booth S26189.
The company has supplied a washing system for Cedar Poly LLC of Tipton, Iowa, and the plastic scrap trading and recycling company has boosted its capacity and quality of post-consumer high density polyethylene. In the first step, shredded HDPE flake passes through a pre-washing cycle where the material is soaked, and contaminants such as stones, metals and glass are removed. Next, paper residue and other items are separated by friction washers. A newly developed rotor gives an optimized dwell time, for highly effective cleaning, Lindner officials said.
Heavier plastics, such as PET, ABS or vinyl, are removed in an additional separation stage. The plastic is then sent through a washTEch LMD 2000/1200 mechanical dryer.
Finally, an air wash system separates out any remaining fines and film particles.
The cleaned and dried HDPE flake has a residual moisture of less than 1 percent. Even so, because no thermal drying is needed, and not much water is consumed, the operating costs are fairly low, the company said.
