Repsol's Chemicals Division has developed a polypropylene-based block copolymer that is made with catalysts that are free of phthalates.
The division of Spanish energy conglomerate Repsol of Madrid says the new polymers are aimed at injection molding of goods such as buckets and cases, consumer goods and food preservation products, extruded film and sheet and non-wovens for hygiene products.
The new block copolymers are a result of several years of research at Repsol on phthalate-free catalysts that the company subsequently adopted for a wide range of PP grades. By 2012, Repsol was producing random PP copolymers with phthalate-free catalysts.
