LAKE LAS VEGAS, NEV. — Captive molder Stihl Inc. is the 2014 Plastics News Processor of the Year.
The Virginia Beach, Va., plant, part of a large, family-owned outdoor power equipment company, does injection molding, extrusion and blow molding. The plant is highly automated, and competes for work with other Stihl operations in Germany and China.
The award was announced at the Plastics News Executive Forum in Lake Las Vegas. A profile of Stihl's 400-employee plastics operation will run in the Feb. 9 edition of Plastics News.
Plastics News also announced other award-winners at the forum:
• Evco Plastics Inc., a custom molder based in Deforest, Wis., won the PN Excellence Award for industry/public service.
• Prism Plastics Inc., a custom molder based in Chesterfield Township, Mich., won the PN Excellence Award for customer relations.
• Nicolet Plastics Inc., a custom molder in Mountain, Wis., won the PN Excellence Award for employee relations.
• Plastic Components Inc., a custom molder in Germantown, Wis., won the first-ever Plastics News Sustained Excellence award. That competition is open only to previous winners of the Processor of the Year. PCI was the 2008 Processor of the Year.
