SPRINGFIELD, VA. — Auxiliary equipment maker Universal Dynamics Inc. is building a 35,000-square-foot expansion at its headquarters factory in Woodbridge, Va., President Bill Goldfarb said at the company's national sales meeting here.
Goldfarb said Una-Dyn will break ground in June.
“It's a way to streamline production,” he said Feb. 16 at the sales meeting. The three-day sales meeting helped the Una-Dyn's manufacturers' representatives to prepare for NPE 2015 next month.
Una-Dyn currently has a total of 75,000 square feet of space at two buildings in Woodbridge, near Washington, D.C. Manufacturing in the original building follows a non-linear path, but the new expansion will be properly laid out for good production flow, he said.
The company, which employs 120 in Woodbridge, makes material handling systems, dryers, loaders, blenders, chillers and granulators. Una-Dyn does all manufacturing in-house, he said.
“We do it from flat sheet metal. With that comes the ability to control the process and customize,” Goldfarb said.
Una-Dyn was purchased by Italy-based auxiliary manufacturer Piovan SpA in 2008. Piovan had total 2014 sales of 155 million euros ($175 million), Chief Marketing Officer Giorgio Santella said at the national sales meeting.
North America accounts for about 22 percent of sales. Santella pointed out that Piovan sells auxiliaries to many primary machinery suppliers in Germany and other European countries, and those units often get exported around the world.
Una-Dyn does not release sales figures.
