A new grant program is being launched to help fund foam recycling infrastructure.
The Foam Recycling Coalition said its new program will help in the collection, processing and marketing of products made from polystyrene foam and targets products such as food service packaging, egg cartons, meat trays and protective packaging.
The coalition is part of the Foodservice Packaging Institute and is seeking applicants involved in managing residential curbside recycling, drop-off recycling and commercial recycling.
Expected applicants include material recovery facilities “especially those looking to add or strengthen a polystyrene foam program,” the coalition said.
Grants are expected to range from about $15,000 to $50,000 and will be available to both the public and private sectors.
No cash match is required, and grants will be determined on a case-by-case basis depending on equipment needs.
The coalition formed last year to focus on foodservice packaging made from foam.
Grant application deadline is March 16, and awards will be announced April 30. More information and applications are available at www.fpi.org/recyclefoam.
