New materials supplier Polymax Thermoplastic Elastomers Inc. has new grades of sensory-sensitive thermoplastic elastomers.
The new Polymax TPEs are aimed at packaging, for which they offer low extractables, neutral organoleptics and good sealing properties and clarity, according to the Waukegan, Ill., company. They are suited to food and beverage markets, transportation components and storage.
Potential applications include screw cap liners and engineered wine closures, where they can manage permeation of carbon dioxide, water vapor and oxygen. Another use could be tubing for dairy products handling, bag-in-box wine and similar products.
Polymax Thermoplastic opened the Illinois production plant and office last year. The subsidiary of China's Nantong Polymax claims to offer more than 500 grades of TPEs.
