Procter & Gamble Co. will help prompt consumers to recycle rigid packaging by joining the Sustainable Packaging Coalition's How2Recycle Label program.
P&G's Dawn dishwashing soap will carry the Widely Recycled Label that reminds consumers that most U.S. residents can recycle PET bottles. The label includes a special message, “Empty and Replace Cap” to encourage consumers to include bottle caps in the recycling stream.
How2Recycle Label is an SPC initiative led by GreenBlue, a non-profit group based in Charlottesville, Va. The goal of the initiative is to create a nationally harmonized label that allows industry to communicate clear recycling instructions.
“While the public generally recognizes the recyclability of plastic bottles, recycling rates remain relatively low,” noted SPC senior manager Anne Bedarf in a news release.
P&G has been a member of SPC since 2008. Its membership is a small part of the Cincinnati-based consumer products giant's ongoing sustainability program.
