Ford Motor Co.'s new F-150 pickup now incorporates Repreve fibers, made of recycled materials including PET, in its interior upholstery. The company expects to divert more than 5 million plastic bottles from landfills this year, Ford announced.
Repreve fiber has been used in several other Ford vehicles since 2012.
“By using Repreve in the all-new Ford F-150, we are reconfirming our commitment to using renewable and recyclable materials in our vehicles,” Carol Kordich, lead designer of global sustainability materials strategy development, said in a statement. “We are always looking for ways to incorporate more innovative and sustainable materials into our vehicles.”
