Piovan, based in Santa Maria di Sala, Italy, broke out the Aquatech division in January, headed by Piergiorgio Coletto.
Coletto said Piovan has been making chillers for PET and other plastics sectors for 40 years. But now Aquatech, which focuses on industrial cooling is targeting the United States for the first time.
Adiabatic cooling is an alternative to traditional evaporative cooling towers. It works by circulating process water through wetted panels and passing ambient air over the panels to remove the heat, and cooler water goes back to the factory. It consumes much less water than traditional cooling towers.
Coletto said each system needs to be tailored to the specific customer and application demands.
Coletto, speaking at Universal Dynamics Inc.'s national sales meeting before NPE 2015, said the system can be expanded in plug-and-play fashion. The rooftop adiabatic cooling system can pass the water to individual smaller Digitemp scroll compressors located at the plant machinery. For example, one Digitemp can be used for one injection molding machine.
“You build a cooling cycle,” Coletto said.
Una-Dyn is owned by Piovan.
Aquatech competes with several other adiabatic cooling tower brands, including Green Box srl of Italy and Conair Group, which offers Earthsmart cooling systems.
