New details are emerging about Silgan Plastics' plans for a new production facility in Hazelwood, Mo., near St. Louis.
The company officially has confirmed its plans to construct a 335,000-square-foot site “that will bring at least 120 manufacturing jobs to the area,” Silgan said.
“The primary focus of the facility is to support the growth of existing long-term strategic customers, lower overall operating cost of our manufacturing network, and to provide a platform for growth in target markets,” Silgan Plastics President Sarah Macdonald said in a statement.
Silgan also recently unveiled plans for another new facility in the Borough of North East, Pa.
Construction of the Hazelwood facility has started. Operations are expected to begin late this year, Silgan Plastics said.
Initial word of the probable Hazelwood site became known last month when Hazelwood City Council approved a loan for the company to purchase equipment.
Silgan Plastics, of Chesterfield, Mo., is a unit of Silgan Holdings Inc. The company makes plastic containers for various markets, including personal care, food, health care and household and industrial chemicals.
Silgan ranked No. 10 in Plastics News' most recent ranking of North American blow molders, and tied for No. 21 in PN's ranking of injection molders.
