U.S. car parts maker Federal-Mogul Holdings Corp. has unveiled plans to establish a new production facility in Ploiesti, Romania, reports local news magazine The Diplomat — Bucharest.
Under the plan, by 2016, the manufacturer is to take on about 300 workers. The factory will make windshield wipers with the use of plastics.
"The investment reflects the growing strength of the relationship between our two countries and the attractiveness of Romania to U.S. investment," Dean Thompson, Charge d'Affaires of the U.S. Embassy to Romania, said at a press conference held by Southfield, Mich.-based Federal-Mogul. "Ploiesti has become one of the most attractive regions in Romania for foreign investments."
Federal-Mogul's new factory will be fitted with an output capacity of some 28 million windshield wipers per year. The amount of the investment was not disclosed by the US company.
Federal-Mogul already operates a car parts factory in Ploiesti with 300 workers making brake pads.
