DuPont Co.'s Knowledge Center in Hyderabad, India, was awarded LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The center handles research and development in areas including bio-based industrials and advanced material sciences, as well as agriculture and other fields.
Resource conservation efforts at the center include water reuse through a sewage treatment plant, solar-powered lights, LED lights, motion sensors for lighting, CFC-free refrigerants, paper recycling, composting and use of green-certified chemicals for housekeeping.
“The energy-efficient design and eco-friendly maintenance features used in the center aim to ‘conserve and preserve' rather than ‘waste and exploit' the natural resources, offering a healthier and cleaner environment,” said Ranjan Patnaik, the center's director, in a news release.
The center opened in 2008 and employs 400. DuPont is based in Wilmington, Del.
