AKRON, OHIO — Russell Broome, managing director of the Society of Plastics Engineers, will be the keynote speaker at the SPE Akron Section's Awards Night dinner May 18 at Firestone Country Club.
Broome is an advocate of education and luring young people into the plastics industry. The Akron Section's annual Awards Night recognizes local industry leaders and announces scholarship winners.
Broome, who has a plastics industry background, holds a mechanical engineering degree from North Carolina State University. He became an SPE member in 1992 as a student. Broome was elected SPE president in 2011. He became managing director of the Bethel, Conn.-based SPE last fall.
Cost for Awards Night is $30 for members and/or guests, $25 for retired members and $10 for students. The event begins with a social period and a cash bar at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. The program begins at 7 p.m.
