Bandera SpA, which makes extrusion lines for blown film and foil and sheet lines flat-die technology, hosted several hundred people at a May 8 grand opening of its new research and development center in Busto Arsizio, Italy, the company headquarters.
Bandera held the ceremony in conjunction with the Plast 2015 show, held May 5-9 in Milan.
The 32,300-square-foot R&D area will host customers for in-house workshops and open houses. Bandera invested $4.5 million.
At the open house, Bandera displayed a line for seven-layer blown film coextrusion for thermos-lamination and also barrier-layer packaging, plus two lines with flat die technology to make rigid, semi-expanded film for thermoforming and form-fill-seal markets.
Ninety percent of Bandera's sales come from export business.
The company, which employs 170 people, generated 2014 sales of more than 70 million euros ($78 million).
Cutting the ribbon was Roberto Maroni, the prefect of Verese district Giorgio Zanzi; the major of Busto Arsizio, Gianluigi Farioli, and the owners and some staff members of Bander.
