Welcome to BRICS and Plastics, a new Plastics News blog that will take a global look at the industry.
As the name suggests, it'll include the major BRICS economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
But the blog will also range over other spots important to plastics, like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Mexico, Turkey, Central Europe and the diverse bloc lumped together as Southeast Asia. I aim to complement our already strong coverage in North America and Western Europe, where most of our journalists are focused.
My colleague Nina YingSun will continue her long-running PN China blog, which is being rebranded as “The Other Side.” So I'll be trying to focus more on the BRICS outside of China (suggestions on what could be the new "C" are welcome!)
Since early 2015, I've been the news editor-international for Plastics News. Before that, I was our chief reporter in Asia, living and working in Hong Kong in 2006-2007 and in Guangzhou for the last 7 years.
At its best, I hope this blog can be informative and entertaining, and bring to light some of lesser-told stories of the industry's globalization, whether that's looking inside recycling plants in India or getting some new perspective of globe-trotting execs at trade shows. Hope you enjoy!
