Japan Steel Works Ltd. has been awarded the extruder package for Sasol Ltd.'s low density polyethylene plant, part of Sasol's big petrochemical project in Louisiana.
LDPE is one of the downstream plants in Sasol's complex using ethane gas. The resin plant uses ExxonMobil's tubular process technology, according to JSW.
JSW will deliver the single-screw extruder with a screw diameter of 700 millimeters (27.5 inches) — JSW's largest-ever single-screw extruder.
Officials of JSW said they expect to win more equipment contracts for petrochemical projects in North America, spurred by low-cost natural gas feedstock, from shale gas.
