BGF Industries Inc. has developed a woven, co-mingled glass/polypropylene fabric aimed at composite parts.
The Greensboro, N.C., company says PolyPreg is suited to components in automotive, construction, marine, defense, sports and transportation applications. The thermoplastic fabric is soft and conforms to complex shapes. BGF says the fabric weighs 750 grams per square meter and is available in natural and black colors. It is sunlight resistant and less likely to crack or become discolored or brittle.
PolyPreg can be laminated, molded or pultruded at temperatures of about 400° F and with pressure of 20 to 100 pounds per square inch. It can be stored for long periods at temperatures of up to 300° F.
BGF reports the new fabric is the first in its DryPreg product line of various fibers and thermoplastics that will be unveiled this year.
